Manfrotto 190XPROB Review: Best Tripod for DSLR Shooters?

I recently found this promo video and thought I'd include it in this brief Manfrotto 190XPROB review.

I own the 055XPROB and did a Manfrotto 055XPROB Review and the main differences between the two units are weight and how low the tripod can go (referred to as "lowest height").

Here's an excerpt from my other review:

Canon Rebel T2i Looks Better In The Dark

Canon EOS 550D FrontCanon has announced a new digital SLR camera: the rebel T2i (EOS 550D). Say hello to better low light photographs, video, and high resolution images.

Like the other DSLR cameras in the rebel line, this is a consumer digital SLR. The T2i features in 18 megapixel CMOS sensor and 1080p HD video recording with full manual control. This camera incorporates a lot of features seen in more expensive professional DSLR cameras but in a lighter body.

EOS 550D Video: Full HD Movies with Potentially Great Audio

There are problems with low-priced HD cameras. The first problem is the ability to capture high-quality audio. A lot of video cameras lack an external microphone jack or socket. The other problem is the ability to control your depth of field. The Rebel T2i addresses both of these problems.

Sony Alpha DSLR A500 Preview / A550 Preview

Sony-Alpha-DSLR-A550-Body In the Sony digital SLR lineup, the Sony Alpha DSLR A500 and it’s big brother, the Sony Alpha DSLR A550, are aimed squarely at the more experienced DSLR user although most users will find this camera easy to use.

The Alpha DSLR A500 Versus the Alpha DSLR A550

The main differences between the A500 and the A550 are resolution and speed.

The A500 has 12.3 megapixels and the A550 has 14.2 megapixels.  As for speed, the A550 can capture 7 frames per second while the A500 can capture 5 per second.

The A550 also has an amazing 3 inch LCD in high-resolution whereas the A500 LCD appears to be slightly lower resolution.

Bogen Manfrotto Tripod Review: 055XPROB

Manfrotto-055XPROB-side This is a blog about digital SLR cameras, but I recently purchased a tripod and I’m so happy with it that I just had to share my thoughts with a quick Bogen Manfrotto 055XPROB review.

This is a heavy-duty, 2.4 kilograms (5.29 lbs), aluminum tripod.  When I first pulled it out of the box from Amazon, I thought, “Whoa, what have I gotten myself into here.  This thing is going to be a back-breaker to carry around.”

Then I started using it.

Now that I own it, I don’t know how I got along without it …especially in strong wind conditions.

A few years ago, I was on a rock outcropping getting some sunset shots of the Battleship in the Grand Canyon. A strong gust came up and blew my old tripod over, which almost sent my camera, my precious photos and me to the bottom of the canyon as I lunged to save my gear from certain destruction.

Had I been using the 055XPROB, I wouldn’t have had a problem …or needed a parachute and a new pair of shorts.
